DUI classes may be required by the court

Introduction

DUI classes may be required by the Court, the Department of Motor Vehicles, or both. Each entity works independently of the other and uses its criteria to determine if someone needs to complete a DUI program.

If they decide a person needs to participate in a program, they will use the guidelines set forth by the Colorado Office of Behavioral Health to determine which program is appropriate.

We specialize in treating co-occurring disorders, addressing both mental health and substance misuse.
If you suffer from mood disorders, anxiety, stress or trauma, these conditions can create challenges for coping with everyday life.

Our Substance Use Evaluation is a 2-part process that includes 2 SESSIONS:

The FIRST SESSION is an ONLINE ASSESSMENT, which takes about 1-1.5 hours and be completed online, at your convenience.

The cost for the evaluation is $300 payable before the First Session.

The SECOND SESSION is a Virtual or In-person meeting with a therapist for about 1.5-2 hours.

No-Show Fees for the SECOND Session are $50 if canceled with less than 24-hour’s 24 hours` notice.

Level II DUI Education

There are two components to the Level II Program: Education and Track Therapy. The Education element must be completed first and will always consist of 12 classes. These classes cover topics concerning how alcohol affects the body and how alcohol and other drugs negatively impact decision-making. Classes are 2 hours long and held once a week. Once Education classes are complete, the next step is Track Therapy.

Track Therapy classes address trigger situations, impulse control, preventative planning, and coping skills. These groups are 2 hours long and are held once a week.

There are four different Tracks in Track Therapy: A, B, C, and D. The determination of which Track will need to be completed is based on two criteria: How many prior DUI’s a person has and their BAC level.

  • Track A and B are required for those who have NO prior DUI’s.
    • Track A is required for BAC’s of .149 or lower. This course is a total of 21 groups.
    • Track B is required for BAC’s of .150 or higher. A person may also be required to complete Track B if they refused roadside or blood testing. This course is a total of 26 groups.

  • Track C and D are assigned to those who have at least one prior DUI.
    • Track C is required for BAC’s of .149 or lower. This course is a total of 34 groups.
    • Track D is required for BAC’s of .150 or higher. A person may also be required to complete Track D if they refused roadside or blood testing and have a prior DUI. This course is a total of 43 groups.

Level II 4+ (Track F) Program

This program addresses those who have four or more DUI’s, or have three DUI’s but the court feels there is a persistent drunk driving element that needs additional support. There are no education classes, and the group therapy is focused on areas of concern that become known through assessment tools or therapy. The Level II 4+ program requires 180 hours to be completed in a minimum of 18 months.
